Halle Berry, The Original G, Will Always Be Hip-Hop’s Sweetheart

In 2001, Halle Berry was stamped into history when she became the first and so far only woman of color to win the Best Actress Oscar award. Halle Berry became that girl (ahem – woman). But, to the new millennial, equally impressive are her various mentions in rap songs. The hip-hop & rap community unofficially announced Berry as their queen decades before the Kardashians became relevant and began racking up mentions in rap songs.

Berry has consistently been in rappers’ mouths and minds when lyrically creating music. Everyone from Biggie, Kanye, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, and most notably Drake have gawked over the former catwoman.

Berry has gained a following in the industry and thinks of her references as “children,” she says, “I love all these artists, and I’m always flattered” in an interview with Hot Ones.
