Traci Braxton, a singer who was the sister of Toni and Tamar Braxton, passed away earlier this month at the age of 50 due to cancer. It has been confirmed that Traci had esophageal cancer which she was battling privately.
For many, the Braxton family represents Black women’s excellence as each sister has their own individual talents, though, strengthened when they all perform together. Traci and her star-studded family exposed the ups and downs of their lives as Traci was mostly best known for her appearances on the reality television show Braxton Family Values with her sisters Tamar, Toni, Towanda, and Trina and her brother, Michael, and their families always kept it real. She was known to be the “wild card” of the family even being the only one to step away from the music industry in the 1990s to raise her son and work as a social worker. During the reality television show, her life was explored more as she decided to return to the music industry and release her own album.
The Braxton Family Values star spent the last year in hospice amid her treatment for esophageal cancer leaving behind her son, Kevin Surratt Jr, who took to Instagram after her passing, “When I heard the news about my mother being sick first thing she said was I’m going to fight and beat this,” her son captioned in an Instagram post. “She fought to the end and today she’s at peace. I love my mother forever and this hurts so much but I’m at peace knowing she’s isn’t in pain anymore. I love you ma I’m going to miss you.”
Others took to Instagram to show their love to the family including comedian Kevin Hart. He posted a video with a kind message, “Hey! This message is for Traci,” he began. “I was just made aware that you are a fan and how long you’ve been a fan. And I am now aware of the love that you have given me and I just want to take the time to give you that love back and tell you that you are loved in return for the love that you have given.“
Meanwhile, the most honorable tribute of them all goes to an Instagram posted by Traci’s mother, Evelyn, mother of six girls, “Traci switched from life on this side to life on the other side. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Thank you Lord, for 50 years you have given me and my family and the world with Traci and allowing me to be her Mommy,” Evelyn finished her tribute. “It will always be a empty place in my heart that will never be fulfilled. Although she came through me but she comes from God. yes we will miss her because we love her. Lord, Thank you, you loan to us such a beautiful treasure in vessel that will never be forgotten.. NO I won’t complain! Look at God❤️🌈 Forever in my heart!”
