1. Black Opal

Black Opal is one of those staple beauty products that has been part of the black culture for so long that everybody mama or auntie owns at least one product at home. Co-founder Cheryl Burgess understands the annoyance and frustration of finding a good, natural-ingredient foundation, which is close to non-existent for women of color and we’re yelling yaasss! Forget invitation to a cookout, just move in with us okay. Also, they’re pretty inexpensive so check your local Walmart. Yep, it’s in the cosmetic aisle.

India’s favorite: “Black Walnut” True Color Stick Foundation SPF15

 2. Cee Cee’s Closet NYC

Founded by Brooklyn-raised sisters Uchenna and Chioma Ngwudo, Cee Cee’s Closet are making head waves with their fashionable, protective styling head wraps designed and handcrafted from Nigeria. You can wear them anywhere you please…Amen! Plus, they also have chokers, clutches, and other accessories to make you feel like a “Melanated Goddess”. So say it with us…cause we are sistas, we stand together…

Jasmin’s favorite: “Ifeatu shortie” Headwrap (sold out)

 3. Coloured Raine Cosmetics

Okay, so you probably heard about Coloured Raine Cosmetics everywhere but seriously this brand is the best out there! Founded by Loraine Dowdy, she encourages self-expression and diversity [1] with her cosmetic line and we are so here for it! Also, Rihanna so happens to be a fan [2].

Jasmin’s favorite: “Tootsie” matte lip paint

5. Foxie Cosmetics

This raw, organic, cruelty-free, and versatile product line provides consumers from bath bombs to body creams. With her rich, formulated ingredients, this Austinite native Foxie (Kayla Phillips) is making moves that will have Lush Cosmetics look twice. Did we also say her products are vegan-friendly?

India’s favorite: “Upside-Down Pineapple Cake” bath bomb

6. LIT Brooklyn

So we love a good smelling candle and honestly we wish nobody knew about LIT Brooklyn. We practically made a gif about how it good it freaking smells! Denequa, I think we are sisters because we have the same last name. Pulling up ancestry.com right now…

Jasmin’s and India’s favorite: “Home” candle

6. Oyin Handmade

Founder Jamyla Bennu has created a “honey” based, all natural-ingredient hair and skin care line. She also creates deodorants and body creams that fight ash. No seriously, check out the website. You can also find the beauty products at your local beauty supply store such as Sally Beauty Supply.

Jasmin’s favorite: “Hair Dew” daily hair quenching lotion

7. Pear Nova

A Chicago-based nail polish line founded and curated by Rachel James. It is vegan-friendly and free from any of those nasty, harmful ingredients that we can’t pronounced (can you say “dibutyl phthalate”…yeah we thought so). Her nail colors are always on-trend and every nail color seems to work beautifully for every skin tone.

Jasmin’s favorite: “Heavy Meadow” nail polish
